May 25, 2021
6:28 p.m.

Today an investigation was initiated after receiving information regarding a possible Code of Conduct violation involving a weapon. The information that was received as the situation developed resulted in the activation of safety and incident protocols as established in the Holmes District Schools Safety Manual.

A determination was made that this individual may have been in violation of District policy, the Code of Conduct, and Florida Statutes concerning student safety, which resulted in a referral to law enforcement.

HCHS Graduation is secure. The person alleged to be involved in this incident is currently in custody. There will be no further comment pursuant to a full investigation by local law enforcement agencies.

SUBJECT:  HCHS, BK-8, and GAP School Schedules

The Holmes County High School Boys Baseball team will be competing in the FHSAA Final Four Baseball Championships on the dates of May 19 & 20, 2021 in Ft. Myers, Florida, a distance of almost 500 miles.  The boys have a semi-final game scheduled on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 4:00 PM EST, and with a win they will play in the Class 1A State Championship game on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 7:00 PM EST.

Due to the number of students and school staff (over 60 employees to include Bonifay bus drivers) that have indicated their intent to travel on Tuesday and Wednesday it has been determined the ability to actually keep these three schools open during all or part of this time will be impractical, if not nearly impossible.  The following are courses of actions that we will follow depending on the scenarios that are presented and determined by the course of the tournament games HCHS Blue Devils will be participating in:

  1.  All 3 schools will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday (May 19 & 20) of this week.
  2. HCHS Blue Devils win their semi-final game; all three schools will then be closed on Friday also.
  3. HCHS Blue Devils do not win their semi-final game; all three schools will be open and follow their regular schedules on Friday

These options have been developed based on the survey of staff, support staff, and student body membership, and local community support as to their intent for attending the FHSAA Final Four.
